Martín Soto was kidnapped by ICE on February 1 while on his way to buy diapers for his 11-month old son. He was detained at Newark’s Delaney Hall, where he helped lead a hunger and labor strike before being transferred to Elizabeth Detention Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey in May. Last month, BT sat down with Martín’s wife Gabriela Soto, who shared with us some of her favorite memories with her husband. She also describes the deplorable conditions at Delaney Hall which drove Martín and other detainees to launch their strike. At the time of this interview, Gabriela was pregnant with their third child. But just a few weeks later in early August, she revealed on Democracy Now that the stress of Martín in solitary confinement had caused her to miscarry. “To me, this is an ICE murder, too,” Gabriela said.
