Russian-made weapons captured by Ukrainian forces would be planted in LATAM countries to blame Moscow.

On Monday, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) warned of a plan by “a Western country” to carry out false-flag attacks using Russian weapons in Latin America.

“This time, the events are unfolding on the Latin American stage, and the plot itself resembles a scene from a third-rate crime narcodrama. The plan is to accuse Russia of illegal arms supplies to drug cartels and other criminal groups in Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico,” it said.

To carry out this strategy, the architects of the plan are introducing into Latin American countries Russian-made weapons previously captured by Ukrainian forces.

The SVR said the organizers are preparing fake audio and video recordings designed to “confirm” the alleged shipment of this military equipment to Latin American countries through intermediaries.

Through this maneuver, the West hopes to persuade governments in the region to adopt an anti-Russian line, the SVR pointed out. However, the SVR said it believes the provocation will only “demonstrate, once again, the absence of any moral limits” and the stereotypical thinking of those behind it.

“From the very beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, the information war waged by the Euro-Atlantic elites against Russia has been characterized by the planting and promotion of the most vile narratives — beyond the bounds of morality and law,” the SVR said, recalling as an example the “bloody staging” that occurred in Bucha in April 2022.

The SVR warned that history shows that the price of false-flag operations against Russia “can be extremely high, especially for those who organize them.”

In this regard, it recalled the Gleiwitz Incident of Aug. 31, 1939, when members of the SS attacked a German radio station dressed in Polish uniforms, an event that triggered World War II.
