Jiang Zemin, who died in 2022, was the secretary general of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from 1989 to 2002 and president of the country from 1993 to 2003.

The meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People in this capital, was attended by top CPC and state leaders.

Xi, who is also the general secretary of the CPC and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), described Jiang’s life as one dedicated to national independence, the liberation of the people, and the prosperity of the country.

The president underscored that Jiang Zemin boosted progress in socialist material, political, and cultural construction, as well as in strengthening the Party.

Xi noted that the former leader made contributions to the development of reform and opening, the overall improvement of people’s living standards, and the projection of socialism with Chinese characteristics into the 21st century.
