Lula will travel to the municipality of Oiapoque, in the far north of the country, to tour a Petrobras drillship carrying out exploratory activities off the coast of Amapa, accompanied by Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras, and Davi Alcolumbre, president of the Senate.
Local media reported that the governor of Amapa, Clecio Luis, of the Brazil Union party, who is seeking reelection in the October elections, will also participate.
The visit comes three days after Petrobras reported the presence of hydrocarbons in the Morpho exploratory well, located in block FZA-M-59, in the Foz do Amazonas sedimentary basin within the Brazilian Equatorial Margin.
The Folha de S. Paulo newspaper noted that the government is working to reach authorization from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) to drill three more wells in the same area, to expand studies on the hydrocarbon potential of the Equatorial Margin.
