Given her predictably woeful performance, you’d think it might have been her last appearance on LBC. Instead, she hosted her own slot on the channel that same day.

Woeful from Laila Cunningham
The following clip from LBC demonstrates Laila Cunningham’s inability to give a clear answer. While people are ridiculing her for this, we’re not entirely sure it’s her fault. In our opinion, the issue seems to be that there isn’t a good answer:

Ben Kentish: What’s the latest explanation, Leila, as to why he took that £5 million gift from a Thai-based crypto billionaire?
Laila Cunningham: Well, we were just discussing it. You know, he is under a massive threat. And I mean, security is so expensive and he’s going to have to pay for it. Listen, he has a mate that has a lot of money. And the mate was like, listen, you don’t feel safe. You don’t have any security. I’ll give you money today.
Ben Kentish: But he’s since gone back on that claim, hasn’t he? He now says it was a gift. It was a reward for delivering Brexit. Was it to pay for security or was it a reward for delivering Brexit?
Laila Cunningham: Well, I mean, two things can be true. You know, he could have really liked what he did for Brexit and said, you know what? That got him close and said, actually, your security.
Ben Kentish: So the money’s been spent on security?
Laila Cunningham: One doesn’t cancel out the other. But Nigel is, listen, I mean, he is under constant – it’s a horrible way to live for him.
Ben Kentish: So he spent that money, all of it, or at least all of it that he spent on security?
Laila Cunningham: I don’t know what he spent.
The exchange continued to go around like this. Cunningham would also scold voters for asking these questions, even though she herself admitted she didn’t know if the money was spent on security:

As illustrative as the above is, it doesn’t actually get to the core of the problem for Farage.
Declarations
Farage accepted the £5m gift from Harborne — a crypto billionaire — in 2024. At the time, he’d said he wouldn’t run in the general election, but this changed after he received the £5m. The problem is that after he became an MP, he was supposed to declare any ‘registrable benefits’ from the previous 12 months. Farage did not declare the £5m, and now it looks like he was purposefully trying to hide it.
Was this cash from a crypto billionaire potentially relevant to Farage’s subsequent political activities? It definitely could have been, because Farage went on to shill for the crypto industry. And as we also reported:
It also later emerged that Farage had seemingly agreed to return to politics before accepting the gift, adding to the evidence that the cash lump sum was political. Add to this the fact that Farage reportedly spoke aboutwanting £1 million a year to return to politics (and he then received a £5 million gift just before the start of a new five-year parliamentary period).
So the problem isn’t how Farage spent the money; the problem is Farage failed to declare it, and he may have done so to obscure a transactional agreement.
We cannot confirm that Harborne paid Farage to be a crypto-supporting politician; we can say this all could have been ironed out in 2024 if Farage had simply declared the payment.

Whether you agree with the above point about the Tories or not, it’s a problem that UK media outlets are happy to serve as a soapbox for politicians. These institutions used to challenge people in power. They never did a particularly good job of it, obviously, but it was at least some sort of check.
We don’t know how things will deteriorate from here, but it does seem like ‘worse’ is always the direction of travel.
