A series of disturbing videos have shown a new weapon police and security forces are now using. And as people are pointing out, it’s a weapon which could serve as both the delivery method of violence and the excuse for dishing it out:

Compliance

The weapon demonstrated above is called the G.L.O.V.E., and it’s a product from the dystopian sounding ‘Compliant Technologies’. Compliant describe its product as follows:

The G.L.O.V.E. quickly transforms into a CD3 (Conductive Distraction and De-escalation Device) when used within the Force Continuum to supplement existing tools for law enforcement, corrections, security, EMS and the military. It is available as an “invisible partner” to enhance the user’s effectiveness when operating within their agencies’ already established tactics, techniques and procedures. This is why we call the G.L.O.V.E. the “Force Multiplier” and how it operates within the Force Continuum as “The New Protocol in Peace Keeping.”

As can be seen in the video, a G.L.O.V.E. wearer can pretty much instantly debilitate a person by placing a hand on them. The question is this: why would a law enforcement officer want to get up close like this when they already have the option of tasing someone from afar?

For many, the answer is simple; it’s because the resulting convulsions could potentially be described as an attempt to resist arrest.

It gets darker than this too, as Mother Jones have reported:

In the linked piece, an assistant police chief is quoted as saying:

“In today’s society, you know, everybody’s filming everything, everybody has a cell phone,” Glueck said. If an officer punches someone on camera, that can go viral in an instant; even a standard taser leaves puncture wounds. But “the glove is low optic, and it looks better on camera, and it looks better to those witnesses. With a glove, there are no burn marks or scars.”

Unregulated GLOVE

The same article notes that Amnesty International have warned that the G.L.O.V.E. is “readily misused for torture”. This is unsurprising, given what we know about police forces, and the fact that the device leaves no mark. It’s also unsurprising to learn that ICE plans to spend $20m on the covert weapon.

Amnesty have complained that this new technology is unregulated “despite the clear human rights risks associated with its use”. As Mother Jones reported:

The technology is unregulated “despite the clear human rights risks associated with its use,” Amnesty International researchers wrote in a 2025 report detailing instances in which electric-shock devices have been used for torture. The report ends with a recommendation that countries “cease use of, decommission and destroy any stockpiles of such prohibited electric shock weapons.”

Damage

While the G.L.O.V.E. may not leave physical signs, that doesn’t mean it can’t do tremendous damage. The device can increase blood pressure and cause changes in heart rhythm, making it potentially deadly to people with underlying conditions. Would police officers admit to using the G.L.O.V.E. if they killed such a person, given that there would be no physical evidence of them using it?

You’d guess not.

But if we begin to see more such cases occurring, we can probably guess what’s happening.
