Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, thanked “the Party, the Government, and the People of China” this Saturday for the third shipment of 15,000 tons of rice, part of a total donation of 60,000 tons of the grain as emergency food assistance in response to the severe economic crisis on the island.

“This aid is part of the unwavering solidarity and brotherhood between both nations, demonstrated in the most difficult times,” the head of Cuban diplomacy pointed out on social media today.

This Thursday, the shipment arrived in Havana, and the delivery ceremony was attended by Beijing’s ambassador to the island, Hua Xin, who asserted that with this rice shipment, the message arrives that “China stands with Cuba.”

“We will continue to support Cuba and its people, who firmly oppose foreign interference from the United States,” said the Chinese diplomat, according to state media reports.

For his part, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Oscar Pérez-Oliva, also present at the donation ceremony, expressed his “deep gratitude” and affirmed that relations between Cuba and China are “indestructible.”

The fourth and final shipment that will complete this donation – the largest that China has sent to the island in recent years – will arrive next September, reported Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Minvec) on social media.

Havana and Beijing maintain close political and economic relations, and the Asian country has consolidated itself as one of the island’s main allies.

Chinese President Xi Jinping approved aid to Cuba in January, which includes financial assistance of 80 million dollars and 60,000 tons of rice.
