As he expressed in the homily of the mass he officiated in Castel Gandolfo, these aesthetic pressures “risk imprisoning us in heavy conditioning, making us waste valuable energy on what is not really important or lasts forever.”
“The glorification of Mary in soul and body teaches us that our true beauty does not consist of hiding the signs of passing time, but in also showing in our flesh the signs of love that has no end,” said Leo XIV.

He proclaimed that “love is the most beautiful ornament of man: the love that transfigures, transforms, ennobles and elevates; that makes us light, free, close to God, even through the ups and downs of life.”
The Pope stressed that “in common experience, one can find people with faces marked by years and suffering, but capable of radiating serenity, benevolence and peace around them; just as one can observe others, perhaps outwardly attractive, but hard and cold inside.”
To truly discover the “divine beauty that surrounds us and for which we have been created, as well as to spread it around us, we must learn to read it both in the tender face of a child and in the wrinkles of an old man, in the vivacity of a young person as in the composure of an adult, in the adornments of celebration as in clothing and work tools,” urged the pontiff.
Leo XIV presided this Saturday over the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption in the pontifical parish of San Tommaso de Villanova, in Castel Gandolfo, where he will also lead the Angelus prayer today and tomorrow.
