The Venezuelan government on Saturday expressed its condolences to Indonesia after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake recorded in the Asian country that has left 47 dead so far.

“We convey our solidarity to the people and Government of Indonesia, while extending our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims and expressing our wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia, on his X account.
The earthquake occurred around 6:00 a.m. local time on Saturday (10:00 p.m. GMT on Friday) with the epicenter about 62 kilometers northwest of Ende, the most populated city on Flores, with about 90,000 inhabitants, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

More than a hundred homes on the island have suffered damage and landslides have been recorded in some parts of Flores, according to the National Disaster Management Agency. The airport of tourist Komodo was also affected, although it remains operational, said the Minister of Transport, Dudy Purwagandhi.
Indonesia is located in the so-called ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, an area of intense seismic and volcanic activity due to the convergence of several tectonic plates.
On June 24, a seismic doublet of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 was recorded in Venezuela that left at least 6,301 dead, more than 16,700 injured, about 18,000 people homeless and material damage that the World Bank estimates at 19.6 billion dollars.
UPDATE: Two quakes hit Indonesia. A shallow M7.7 off Flores (NTT) has a death toll of 38 and triggered 35+ aftershocks.
Later, a deep M6.9 earthquake struck Simalungun, North Sumatra, shaking Medan. No casualties reported there.
