The tribute to the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution in Santiago de Cuba this Thursday, August 13, was distinguished by the laying of a floral offering, on behalf of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, at the monolith that holds the ashes of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in the Santa Ifigenia Heritage Cemetery.

The people of Santiago de Cuba went to the heritage cemetery to pay tribute to Fidel Castro on the exact date of his centenary.
The ceremony was presided over by Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and First Secretary in the province, along with Vice Governor Waldis González. Lázaro Expósito Canto, Hero of Labor of the Republic, also attended the event.
As part of the tribute, 100 membership cards were presented to new members of the Communist Party of Cuba, in an act that symbolized the commitment of the new generations to the continuity of the revolutionary project.
The young people laid the floral offering sent by Raúl Castro, whom the official text describes as his most faithful disciple in life and struggle.
After the formal ceremony, thousands of Santiago residents from diverse social backgrounds placed floral gifts at the monument, including Pioneers, young people, workers, Friends of Cuba, and the general public.
For Yazmín Saldívar Montes de Oca, an industrial processes technologist at the Hermanos Díaz Oil Refinery, receiving her Party card on such a significant date represents a greater commitment to Cuban society. “Fidel taught us that the Revolution is built on example, sacrifice, and daily dedication. Being here today in Santa Ifigenia and assuming this responsibility is an honor and, at the same time, a challenge to continue honoring his legacy and principles,” she said.
During the ceremony, the ideas and legacy of the Commander-in-Chief were evoked, whose influence transcended national borders in areas such as education, health, international solidarity, and the defense of sovereignty.
In one of the green areas of the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, the José Martí Cultural Society planted the 81st caguairán tree as part of its centennial commemoration program.
