The United States yesterday canceled the visa of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, who responded with a letter addressed to President Donald Trump, in which he stated that this measure reveals “a sick conservative phobia against Morena and its leaders” driven by the US government. Below is the full text of the letter addressed to the US president.

Teapa, Tabasco, August 13, 2026

Donald Trump, President of the United States of America

I address you with the respect that you deserve personally and by virtue of your office to inform you that Marco Rubio, Secretary of the State Department, and Christopher Landau, Undersecretary of that department, self-described as “the visa remover,” have ordered that my permit to enter the United States of America be taken away.

As is evident, this decision is political in nature, or rather petty-political and propagandistic, in the Hitlerian style, since there is no reason that justifies such arrogant conduct.

It bears stating that these officials have no proof against me regarding any immoral or criminal act, because I have always guided my public and private life with ideals, principles, and honesty instilled by my parents and practiced out of conviction in my political work.

In reality, revoking my visa is nothing more than a crude and perverse act of villainy by these officials and other hawks who, strictly speaking, are neither diplomats nor much less politicians, since they and those around them act like gang bosses dedicated to spying on, harassing, interfering with, and offending other countries, governments, and politicians whom they consider “communists,” “threats to the security of the United States,” “narco-terrorists,” or [target them] with any other excuse to try to justify their reprisals aimed at those who do not align themselves with or submit to their authoritarian, factional designs and their petty corruption.

I make this last claim because it is public knowledge that most of these characters are known for receiving money for their campaigns or political activities from arms dealers, or as payment for the influence-peddling work they carry out, called lobbying, for the benefit of the mafias of US economic power, of dictatorial governments, and of corrupt foreign businessmen.

It is clear, Mr. President, that not visiting the United States causes me no problem whatsoever in these decadent and lamentable times of hatred, racism, drug addiction, family disintegration, social discontent, and sadness, and I can wait for things to change and for favorable circumstances to arise, as when Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt governed, those giants of freedom who treated Mexico and its people with genuine friendship and respect for their sovereignty.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion on my case, and I hope you will not take it as a challenge, but I believe it would be of high moral standing and of public interest if, with the frankness that characterizes you, you were to answer at least two simple questions for me:

Are you aware of what I am laying out to you? And if you were, does it not seem to you an arrogant act on your part, one that shows, as my father recently wrote, that you are now a ruler who is apathetic and different from the one he knew and dealt with?

And if you were not aware, President, and there is no reason to revoke my visa and it is merely a sick conservative phobia against the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) and its leaders, why do you not dismiss Rubio and Landau, as well as those who are just like them and are doing you harm because they are full of resentment and sectarian attitudes? Or is it not evident that they act like bosses of a clique or faction and not like statesmen?

President Trump, there is still time for you to begin a new stage supported by political professionals, loyal men and women who always place the interest of citizens above personal interest, however legitimate it may be, and who seek the good of the nation.

In politics it will always be better to make amends than to fall into complacency, and it is wise to change one’s mind.

I await your reply so as to also know where we stand, which is always appreciated, because hypocrisy cannot be the doctrine that guides the noble craft of politics, much less when it concerns the relationship between friendly peoples and nations with decorum.
