US troops deployed in the illegal US-Zionist war on Iran are reckoning with the consequences of their life choices. Navy soldiers are reportedly undergoing a “mental health crisis at sea” as the war drags on. This has resulted in reports of multiple troops attempting to jump overboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Hell on the USS Abraham Lincoln
Family members of “sailors” aboard USS Abraham Lincoln are “sounding the alarm” after multiple soldiers attempted to go overboard. Media call it an “unusually prolonged deployment” to the Middle East. The conservative, Zionist-owned New York Suncalls the events evidence of a “mental health crisis“.
(Notably, the Zionist NYS owner exactly announced the “decapitation” of Iran’s leadership, including the assassinated Ayatollah Khamenei in October 2024. That’s a whole 18 months before it happened. I wonder if, by bombing “other regime targets”, he meant 160-odd schoolgirls in Minab? Sadly, it’s probable.)

Mike Levin, a Californian Democratic member of Congress, has raised the alarm over conditions onboard the warship USS Abraham Lincoln. Exposing the failing US military ship, Levin described the crew’s conditions on X as
moldy showers, broken toilets, laundry down for weeks, long stretches with no hot water, a meal that came down to half a cup of rice and two tortillas. No soap, deodorant, or toothpaste.
US Navy: misery at sea
USS Abraham Lincoln has been at sea for more than eight months straight, including a record-breaking stretch without a port stop. It was redirected from a so-called “routine Pacific deployment” to support the US military’s illegal war manoeuvres against Iran. As it’s an aircraft carrier, these likely involve bombing campaigns.
The ship’s deployment was originally supposed to end back in May but was extended with no publicly announced return date. Basically, the US military gives not a flying fuck about its soldiers’ wellbeing.
San Diego resident Annabelle Loma told the Navy Times that her husband had attempted to jump overboard and is now on “medical hold”. She says he was repeatedly “overextended” before the desperate attempt.
Military wife Loma told the Navy Times:
He’s scared … He thinks he’ll get a dishonorable discharge, and just because he was burnt out, his 13-year career is ruined, just like that. That’s not fair; that’s not right. That’s not what he should be worrying about right now.
Maybe, if he wanted a noble “career”, he should’ve considered not becoming an imperialist meat tool. Just a reminder: no troops were conscripted for this war. All joined out of their choice.
In another incident, a soldier spotted his shipmate preparing to go overboard and intervened. In a similar incident reported by Stars and Stripes, one woman told officials that she’d had a message from her husband saying “he hopes he doesn’t wake up tomorrow.” Another parent wrote to the same paper:
My son is currently on that ship, and listening to him say that he and his shipmates constantly think about jumping off the ship just for relief is so hard to listen to. We are all tucked in at night in our beds at night, meanwhile our loved ones are out there fighting with no understanding as to what they’re defending.
The USS Abraham Lincoln‘s roughly 5,000 soldier-sailors and Marines have reportedly endured food and water shortages. Meanwhile, Israel deliberately starved Gaza for three years (or decades). Soldiers have had to put up with disrupted mail services and long workdays, with “little time off”. Meanwhile, Iranian, Lebanese and Palestinian civilians have endured relentless bombing campaigns by the US-Zionist war complex.
Soldiers’ family spoke to Stars and Stripes on condition of anonymity due to fears of reprisal from the US military apparatus regime. Their sailors have logged an unprecedented 250 consecutive days at sea and been complicit in sometimes 40 days of continuous combat operations.

War-making is not bread-winning
More than 200 family members reportedly attended a meeting in San Diego with the acting secretary of the Navy, Hung Cao, about its failures. One woman at the meeting reportedly told Cao that the navy had:
broken trust between us [military families] and the leadership.
During a subsequent virtual meeting, Vice Admiral Joseph Cahill, commander of Naval Surface Forces, acknowledged the burden on sailors and their families.
According to recordings reviewed by MS NOW, Admiral Cahill said:
We hear you loud and clear [regarding] the impact this has on families, on service members, and on the long-term ability of us to stand and sustain our forces’ health.
Blindly sympathetic to military criminals, as you’d expect from a conservative-Zionist outlet, NYS says:
For families at home, the uncertainty has become its own form of hardship.
Manuel Guevara, whose son is aboard USS Abraham Lincoln, told Navy Times the situation “weighs on him daily.” It’s telling that the US-Israeli military’s wonton bombings of Iranian civilians don’t weigh so heavily.
Guevara reportedly told the Navy Times:
I don’t want to worry that the circumstances of this deployment will get the best of my son, and he doesn’t make it back home … That’s an unbearable burden on my heart.
The Navy says it is preparing the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group to relieve USS Abraham Lincoln but it still hasn’t provided a timeline. In a statement, the Navy said the Lincoln‘s leadership is
continuously conducting assessments to monitor and sustain the psychological readiness of every sailor.
Meanwhile, military wife Loma cares for the couple’s three young children alone. She has said:
I’m trying to keep a happy face for our three kids … They’re little, they miss their daddy, they just want to know mommy and daddy are okay. So I can’t just worry and break down, even though I want to — every single day.
It’s understandable that a wife and mother should care about her loved ones. What’s inexcusable is blind ignorance to the thousands of spouses, parents, siblings and children murdered by US war-criminals.
If your family bread-winner’s income depends on a heartless, endlessly war-making empire, you will surely suffer for it. The best thing for families everywhere would be to wake up to that fact.
