Colombia formalized its entry into the United States-led Coalition of the Americas Against Cartels (A3C) on Wednesday, authorizing joint military operations with the US Department of War amid the ongoing national emergency triggered by Monday’s devastating earthquake.

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Colombia as the 19th member of the coalition, which operates under the Trump Administration’s Shield of the Americas initiative and comprises right-wing regional governments, during a group meeting in Panama City.

Hegseth stated that President Abelardo de la Espriella has already requested U.S. military collaboration.

Shortly after Hegseth’s announcement, Colombia’s Ministry of National Defense issued a statement confirming that Bogotá has formalized its incorporation into the regional right-wing militaristic axis.
