Mexico has dispatched 854 humanitarian food packages by air to Pereira, Colombia, for communities stricken by Monday’s 7.4-magnitude earthquake, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced.
Two Mexican Air Force aircraft transported the shipment from the Santa Lucía Military Air Base in the State of Mexico to the South American nation, according to the Mexican leader.

Over the next three days, additional flights from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport will carry another 2,562 food packages, amounting to 58.8 tons, also bound for Pereira—the capital of Risaralda department in west-central Colombia.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contact has been maintained with the Colombian government to coordinate the required support, Sheinbaum added. The “Cali” Humanitarian Aid group remains on alert, comprising 255 specialist military personnel from the Army, Air Force, and National Guard, along with 20 canine teams, ready for deployment in Colombia to aid the affected population. Reserve supplies—including bottled water, medicines, tools, and first-aid backpacks—are also stored at the Strategic Military Collection Center.

Regarding the children’s football team from Tijuana stranded in Colombia, Sheinbaum reported that contact has been maintained through the Mexican Embassy in Bogotá. She specified that the airport’s closure is preventing their return, and that alternatives are being sought for their prompt repatriation.
