Weeks after Saudi Arabia joined the US-Israeli war on the West Asia region with strikes on Yemen, Ansar Allah retaliated with intensified attacks on vital Saudi interests.

This included targeting economic facilities inside Saudi Arabia, on Yemeni soil, and in the Red Sea, inflicting considerable losses on Riyadh.

On Wednesday, August 5, the spokesperson of the Ansar Allah-led Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e, announced that the Saudi-flagged oil tanker NCC Wafaa was targeted with a number of ballistic missiles in the northern Red Sea, off the coast of Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu Port.

Sare’e explained that the attack was launched as part of a maritime blockade, which the Yemeni movement has imposed on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea since July 22, in response to a decade-long comprehensive blockade imposed by Riyadh on Yemen.

He further clarified that Wafaa was the eighth Saudi oil tanker targeted by Ansar Allah since the blockade started three weeks ago. Meanwhile, 29 other Saudi oil tankers and related ships were forced to turn back or change their route in the Red and Arabian Seas.

“After the Yemeni Armed Forces succeeded in tightening the maritime blockade against the Saudi enemy through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in the southern Red Sea, Saudi Arabia diverted the route of its oil tankers to the northern Red Sea. Therefore, the Yemeni Armed Forces confirms that its operations will continue and escalate to target Saudi vessels in the northern Red Sea in order to block all maritime access routes and prevent their passage. In this way, we implement a blockade for blockade equation,” Sare’e added.

In another statement aired on Friday, August 7, Sare’e revealed the details of what he described as a “qualitative military operation” carried out against Saudi forces and allied fighters at the Sahn al-Jinn camp in Marib, in north-central Yemen.

He said that the concentrations of these forces and fighters were targeted with a large number of missiles and drones after their movements were closely monitored. Weapons depots, vehicles, and military equipment were also struck in the attack.

On Sunday, August 9, Sare’e announced that the Yemeni Armed Forces struck a refinery belonging to the Saudi state oil company Aramco in the coastal city of Jizan, in southwestern Saudi Arabia by a drone.

The Yemeni spokesperson said that the operation was carried out in response to Saudi drone violations of Yemen’s sovereignty.

That same day, Ansar Allah attacked Saudi military concentrations, reinforcements, and weapons depots in the Al-Mokha area with a large barrage of missiles and drones.

The operation resulted in the destruction of military equipment, and left dozens of personnel, including Saudi nationals, killed or wounded, according to the Yemeni Armed Forces.

Ansar Allah’s operations against Saudi troops, their weapons warehouses and command centers continued on Tuesday, August 11, and Wednesday, August 12, in Yemen’s Marib and Taiz provinces.

Analysts estimate that the tension between Yemen’s Ansar Allah and Saudi Arabia will further escalate in the upcoming weeks, especially when Riyadh figures out that the traffic of its vessels was completely paralyzed, with the Strait of Hormuz also being closed until further notice.
