On Monday, mine workers took to the streets of Santiago, marching to La Moneda palace to defend Codelco, Chile’s largest state-owned company. Led by the Chuquicamata Union, the miners held signs that read “Codelco belongs to Chileans” and “Codelco is not for sale.” The protest was sparked by Republican Party president Arturo Squella’s recent comments about possibly privatizing the mining company.
