Diaz-Canel thanked Chinese and European political representatives for their support.
On Monday, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel received several representatives of communist parties from around the world who are visiting Havana this week to participate in activities marking the centennial of the birth of Commander Fidel Castro (1926-2016).

Among the visitors are Jose Luis Centella, president of the Communist Party of Spain, and Walter Baier, the president of the European Left Party.
Diaz-Canel expressed his gratitude to Baier for “the permanent support for Cuba and the willingness to continue strengthening interparty relations between the two political organizations.” He also highlighted his conversations with Liu Haixing, head of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party.
Diaz-Canel thanked him for the message sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping and for “the participation of the Chinese party delegation” in the First International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future,” which has been taking place since Monday and will continue through the 13th at the Havana Convention Center.
“Whoever attempts to take possession of Cuba will gather the dust of its soil soaked in blood, if they do not perish in the struggle.”

Regarding the meeting with Liu Haixing, Diaz-Canel said that they addressed “the relevance of interparty relations as a cornerstone of ties between the two nations” and thanked him for the solidarity of the Chinese Communist Party against the U.S. energy blockade.
On Monday, the Chinese government called on the United States to lift “as soon as possible” the sanctions and blockade against Cuba and defended its cooperation with Havana as “open and legitimate” after Washington imposed measures against Cuban entities and officials over their military ties with countries such as China and Russia.
“China will continue to firmly support Cuba in defending its national sovereignty and opposing foreign interference,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said, recommending that Washington stop “pouring garbage over others again and again.”
China has for decades been one of the traditional allies of the Cuban government. This weekend, Diaz-Canel himself thanked the Asian nation for a new donation of 5,000 photovoltaic systems that had just arrived on the island to help alleviate the severe energy crisis.
In January, President Xi approved aid to Cuba that includes US$80 million in financial assistance and 60,000 tons of rice. In 2024, China had already provided another US$100 million donation to the island.
