This week, Palestinian activists across the world have organized a week of action to commemorate journalist Anas Al-Sharif, along with the hundreds of other Palestinian media workers Israel has killed since October 2023. On August 10, 2025, Al-Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, alongside five others were killed when Israeli warplanes targeted their tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. As BT’s Aseel Saleh explains, those around the world are honoring the slain journalist, not because Israel’s targeting of him was out of the ordinary, but because Al-Sharif was “driven by his unparalleled devotion to his people, his dedication to delivering the truth, his steadfastness and defiance despite repeated threats by Israel to assassinate him.”
