The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has suspended two round-of-16 matches in Colombia after a magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck the country, killing more than 100 people across several regions.

The affected fixtures are the Copa Libertadores first-leg match between Deportes Tolima and Independiente del Valle, scheduled for Tuesday in Ibagué, and the Copa Sudamericana clash between Independiente Santa Fe and River Plate, due to be played Wednesday in Bogotá.
Conmebol said both matches were suspended temporarily following the earthquakes and in solidarity with the Colombian people.

The earthquake was centered in San José del Palmar, in the western department of Chocó, and was strongly felt in major cities including Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, home to several of Colombia’s leading football clubs.
The suspensions come as authorities respond to the emergency with measures that include curfews in several cities and the cancellation of public activities.
No new dates have been announced for either match.
The postponement of the Santa Fe-River Plate fixture comes during a difficult period for the Argentine club, which is experiencing what the release describes as the worst results crisis in its history. River Plate had regarded the continental competition as a key opportunity to reverse its fortunes.
The suspensions add the two continental fixtures to the measures adopted in response to the earthquake, with their rescheduling still pending.
