Venezuela activated this Monday its School Reconstruction Plan to rehabilitate 1,000 educational facilities damaged by the recent seismic doublet.
Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez launched the reconstruction initiative from the “Fernando Toro” High School in the coastal state of La Guaira, with the deployment of the Military Community Brigades for Education and Health, known as “Bricomiles“.
The program covers the comprehensive repair of 1,000 school facilities nationwide affected by the seismic doublet and by the impact of the external economic blockade on public infrastructure.

Technical inspections covered more than 300 schools in La Guaira and produced a diagnosis of 167 affected institutions. The plan also contemplates the complete reconstruction of 11 facilities that collapsed entirely under a special construction program.
Works begin immediately in the first 102 schools classified with minor damage, or yellow label, with a six-week target of continuous work to guarantee their conditioning before the start of the next school year.

The operations will run simultaneously in nine communities with a labor force of 2,000 workers, benefiting 22,752 students distributed in 27 small schools, 62 medium schools and 12 large educational complexes. Over the past two years, the Venezuelan government has recovered more than 3,000 school structures.
**“**We are relaunching this plan to recover the educational structures that were severely impacted by the economic blockade that hit our country,” Rodriguez stated.
“We have already recovered more than 3,000 educational structures in the past two years, and we want to provide the best care to educational infrastructure so our children have a happy return to class.”, she added.
The launch gathered sector vice-presidents Anabel Pereira, Héctor Rodríguez and Juan José Ramírez; Defense Minister General in Chief Gustavo González López; Communication and Information Minister Miguel Pérez Pirela; La Guaira Governor Alejandro Terán, and Mayor José Suárez, alongside the commander of the Bolivarian National Guard, the commander of the Strategic Defense Integral Region (REDI) and the head of the Integral Defense Zone (SODI).

Text reads: “A loving embrace for the people! With the “Bricomiles” we made progress in the recovery of educational facilities affected by the strong earthquakes of last June 24. The National Government, the communes, the Bolivarian Armed Forces – FANB and the working class unite for love of Venezuela.”
Authorities assured that the six-week schedule will allow the first group of schools to reopen on time for the new academic period.
Official figures indicate that the reconstruction effort combines institutional capacity, community participation and military engineering resources. The “Bricomiles” model, already applied in more than 3,000 recovered structures, now faces its largest challenge with the mass rehabilitation of classrooms, laboratories, kitchens and sports facilities that serve thousands of children across the country.
