This documentary examines the historical evolution and theoretical development of populism, from the 1892 American Populist Party platform to the advent of European fascism and FDR’s New Deal to neoliberal identity politics of the 20th century and the modern MAGA movement that plagues us today. Utilizing a Dialectical and Historical Materialist framework, we break down how populism functions as a class-collaborationist mechanism designed to manage capitalist crisis. Rather than addressing the root cause of working-class struggle (the economic base of capital) populists across the political spectrum rely on enemy mapping, economism, and class monism to divert mass frustration into cultural grievances, nativism, and false unity.
