Colombia’s Ombudsman’s Office called on Sunday for preventing an escalation of violence after explosive attacks in several areas of the country, including a drone-launched strike on a police station that killed one officer, one day after the inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriella, according to a statement from the public body.

The attacks occurred between Friday and Saturday across 11 departments: Cauca, Nariño, Cesar, Antioquia, Tolima, Huila, Arauca, Caldas, Bolívar, Meta, and Guaviare.

The most serious hit the police station in San Roque, Cesar, killing Subintendant Argemiro Rodelo Canchila. Another attack destroyed a toll booth under construction on the Pan-American Highway near Popayán and Cali, where the inauguration took place.

The Ombudsman stated that while circumstances and authorship are still being verified, harassment and attacks with firearms, drones, and explosives have been recorded against Public Force facilities, infrastructure, roads, and strategic corridors.

The body called for ending actions that affect community rights, especially with the increasing use of drones in the conflict, whose effects can reach inhabited areas.
