The Palestinian National Authority’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs announced Sunday that Ihab Muhammad Abdul Qader Diab, a 36-year-old man originally from the Gaza Strip, died in an Israeli prison where he had been held since December 12, 2023.
Although the announcement came on Sunday, the Commission believes Diab actually died on September 18, 2024. In a separate statement issued later that day, the Gazan Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs accused Israel of concealing the prisoner’s fate throughout that entire period, nearly two years.

Zionist authorities attributed the death to a medical condition, according to the Commission’s statement. The text further reproached that assertion, noting that he was in good health and suffered from no illness at the time of his arrest according to his family.

Since 2023, a total of 91 Palestinians have died while in Israeli prisons, per the Commission’s tally. Out of those, 53 were from Gaza.
Israel has increased the number of Palestinian detainees in its prisons and tightened conditions for them, drawing complaints of torture and deprivation of basic resources from both Israeli NGOs and international organizations.
The overall count of Palestinian deaths in Israeli custody since 1967 now stands at 328, meaning that approximately 28% have occurred over the last 3 years.
