PLASTIC contamination is one of the most overlooked issues linked to climate change, researchers warned on Sunday, saying it should be a central focus of efforts to reduce food waste.
Diverting food waste from other rubbish would reduce climate impacts by between 89 per cent and 99 per cent of landfill-related climate impacts, according to a study published by Nature Food.
The study compared the annual impacts of landfilled food waste with the impact of alternative recycling pathways, using life-cycle analysis modelling to compare outcomes.
