Iran presented a list of demands this Saturday that, it claimed, the United States must meet before Tehran proceeds to reopen maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, including an end to the naval blockade, the lifting of sanctions, and the payment of war reparations.

“Until the United States corrects its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened,” said the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohamad Baqer Zolgadr, in a statement reported by the state agency IRNA.
Zolgadr detailed six conditions that, according to Tehran, would constitute this “correction of behavior” by Washington. Among them, he mentioned the lifting of the naval blockade against Iran, the end of sanctions, the release of blocked Iranian assets, and compensation for damages caused by what he described as “two imposed wars,” a demand that was also included in the memorandum of understanding signed between the parties in mid-June.

The senior Iranian security official also demanded an end to threats against Iran, the cessation of military operations against the country and its regional allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq, as well as the withdrawal of US military forces deployed around the Islamic Republic.
“These are the demands of the Iranian people,” Zolgadr stated.
The secretary of the Supreme National Security Council insisted that the institution “will never yield,” neither militarily nor in negotiations.
His statements come after other senior Iranian officials also linked the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the acceptance of conditions by the United States.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, conditioned the reopening of Hormuz this Saturday on the United States compensating for its alleged violations of the June memorandum of understanding, while announcing that his country is “very close” to reaching an agreement with Oman on the legal mechanism and management of the strategic maritime passage, as well as on determining navigation routes through the strait.
Likewise, the spokesman for the Revolutionary Guard, General Hosein Mohebi, affirmed that the reopening of the strategic maritime passage will depend on Washington fully accepting Tehran’s conditions and ceasing to interfere in regional negotiations.
Oman, a riparian country of the strait alongside Iran, affirmed this Saturday that talks with Tehran on navigation in Hormuz are “positive,” but warned that attacks against vessels transiting this maritime route, where Iran has carried out several operations recently, could “affect” said negotiations.
