Jorge Messi, born in 1958 in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, was instrumental in the career of his son Lionel, for whom he served as representative and administrator of the family assets.

The Professional Football League, dependent on the Argentine Football Association (AFA), bid farewell to Jorge Messi with a photo of him on social media alongside his son, along with the following text: “In this difficult moment of farewell to Jorge Messi, the LPF community and all of football bid him farewell with love and embrace his family and loved ones. Strength, Leo!”

The Newell’s Old Boys club in Rosario, where Messi began his career, published a farewell message through social media: “He was the support and the person who bolstered with vision, rigor, and affection the career of the best player of all time along with his wife, Celia Cuccittini.”

During the 2026 World Cup, Jorge Messi’s state of health generated concern, and some Argentine media had reported his death, but the player’s entourage denied it in a statement: “The Messi family informs that Jorge is going through a health situation. At this time, he is under medical supervision, recovering and evolving favorably within the condition he presents.”
