Organizations and social movements from 25 countries renewed their commitment to building socialism during the second working day of the IV Assembly of ALBA Movements, held at the Félix Varela convention center of the University of Havana.

A workshop titled “Balance of the Revolutions and Challenges of the Socialist Project” featured speakers who conducted a historical review of the current situation of social movements across the region.

Llanisca Lugo, representing the Martín Luther King Memorial Center in Cuba, stressed the role played by each social entity of the Caribbean nation in the construction of socialism on the island.

Venezuelan delegate Hermán Vargas, from the Settlers’ Movement, highlighted the characteristics of the movement led by Hugo Chávez. He also denounced the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores by the United States on January 3.

Another session, under the title “The Socialism We Build,” analyzed the causes that have led to the rise of right‑wing forces to power in Latin America.

Throughout the day, participants underscored their commitment to socialism as the sole means of confronting current hegemonic policies.

The Continental Articulation of Social and Popular Movements is a platform that brings together more than 400 organizations from 25 countries around a project of unity and integration of the Americas and other lands.
