Peru’s President Keiko Fujimori ratified this Friday the commitment to organize the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, pledging to accelerate infrastructure projects after evaluating logistical delays with Panam Sports representatives.

During a high-level meeting at the Government Palace in Lima, state ministers and international delegates analyzed the current operational planning.

The delegation from Panam Sports arrived in the Peruvian capital to execute a thorough evaluation of the logistical preparations for the upcoming continental competition.

In these working sessions, which included key Cabinet members, both parties evaluated the operational challenges required to meet the strict deadlines established by the organizing committee. Local authorities recognized the urgent need to optimize execution schedules to guarantee that all sports venues are completed on time.

Addressing public concerns regarding delays in the construction schedules, President Keiko Fujimori reaffirmed her administration’s absolute backing to expedite all pending administrative and legal procedures. This institutional support aims to remove bureaucratic obstacles that have slowed down the preliminary phases of the projects.

We know that things have not progressed at the speed we would have wanted,” Fujimori declared to the press. “However, as president, I am here to correct these issues and inject the necessary speed into the process,” the Peruvian leader emphasized to ensure public confidence.

Text reads: “Lima has already started to vibrate. The Mayor Square filled up last night to start the countdown to the 2027 Lima Pan-American and Parapan American Games, with Simone Biles as the protagonist of a historic night.”

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transport will coordinate directly with the Olympic Committee to oversee the construction of the sports villas. These state entities must ensure that the transport networks connecting the venues are fully optimized before the arrival of the foreign delegations.

Securing Regional Sports

The 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games represent a massive organizational undertaking for Peru, which previously hosted the event in 2019. The Peruvian government expects the multi-sport event to stimulate economic growth, enhance national tourism, and foster athletic development throughout the South American nation.

As part of the promotional campaign, the organizing committee recently selected “Rimo,” a native coastal gecko, as the official mascot for Lima 2027. This symbol represents the unique biodiversity of the Peruvian coast and serves to generate international enthusiasm for the athletic tournament.

Panam Sports representatives emphasized that timely infrastructure delivery remains critical to host over 40 delegations from across the Americas. The international organization confirmed it will maintain a technical oversight commission in Lima to monitor progress and assist local developers in meeting international standards.

The upcoming athletic tournament will bring together more than 8,000 athletes who will compete in over 40 sports disciplines. Peru aims to utilize existing venues from the 2019 edition while upgrading specialized facilities to accommodate new Olympic sports categories.

With this official ratification, the Peruvian government seeks to project stability and operational capability to the global community. The active mobilization of state ministries highlights the geopolitical and cultural importance that Peru attributes to hosting this prestigious continental event.
