At least 300 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza during the 300 days since the October 2025 ceasefire announcement, UNICEF reported Thursday, denouncing the deaths as a war crime.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) confirmed the figure, warning that the killings represent an average of one child dead every day, an alarming rate that reveals the fragility of the truce. Hundreds more minors remain injured, many of them gravely, and the agency warned that medical facilities are overwhelmed by the constant arrival of wounded civilians.
“With hundreds of children more injured, many of them seriously, Gaza’s children continue to wait for the end of the violence that was promised to them,” said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa. “A ceasefire that leaves an average of one child dead each day is failing the children,” he added.

UNICEF denounced that the deaths are a direct consequence of the breakdown of the ceasefire in force, an agreement that requires the suspension of military operations and guarantees access to humanitarian aid and assistance. In this context, the agency urged that the accords translate into effective changes on the ground, with a real cessation of armed clashes.
“Children have already heard promises before. This time, the agreements must translate into actions,” Beigbeder stressed. “For the children of Gaza, the test is simple. Do the deaths stop? Does large-scale aid arrive? Do hospitals reopen and does the water run again? Will the children be able to return safely to school in September?”, Beigbeder said.

Aid Access Urgent
The international body warned that the aggravated violence is compounded by other threats, including acute malnutrition, disease, unsafe water and damaged sanitation systems, in a territory where access to essential services remains severely compromised. Many Palestinian families are forced to shelter in high-risk conditions, occupying destroyed buildings, rubble and accumulated solid waste, which makes safe, rapid and unobstructed humanitarian assistance especially necessary.
According to UNICEF, the latest announcements outline a roadmap that contemplates the end of hostilities and the expansion of humanitarian assistance for the next phase of the ceasefire, a new opportunity to finally stop the deaths of children. The agency called to comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights standards, with special emphasis on protecting children and guaranteeing their access to essential goods and services such as healthcare, education, safe water and food.

The report adds to a growing body of documentation of grave violations against minors in the occupied Palestinian territory. On June 23, the United Nations denounced Israel for committing war crimes and genocide against Palestinian children.
The UN investigation accused Israel of deliberately attacking minors. Nearly 30% of victims in Gaza are children, with at least 20,179 children killed since October 2023. The UN also condemned senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for inciting these acts.
