De la Espriella’s inauguration is being held at the USC Arena of the Santiago de Cali University.
On Friday, the Historical Pact bloc, the party of outgoing President Gustavo Petro, denounced censorship by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nicolas Barguil, and protested the inauguration of Abelardo De la Espriella in Cali.

Leftist congressmen gathered in Bolivar Square to reject the prohibition on using the Elliptical Hall of Congress, arguing that the technical excuses violate constitutional rights to political participation.
Senator Carolina Corcho stated that democracy “cannot be limited” by administrative decisions. Meanwhile, the Historical Pact pointed out that it has the largest bloc in the Colombian Congress.
De la Espriella’s inauguration is being held at the USC Arena of the Santiago de Cali University, the first time it has taken place outside of Bogota, a decision considered unconstitutional and costly by the opposition.

The text reads, “This is how the encounter between Javier Milei and Abelardo De La Espriella went down, in Cali.”
Corcho stated that “in a democratic republic, the Constitution and the balance of power govern, not the personal desires of an incoming president.”
The Historical Pact affirmed that it will mount a firm and responsible opposition under Petro’s leadership, while Representative Maria Fernanda Carrascal promised to defend the social gains achieved during his administration.
Simultaneously, opponents of De la Espriella called for a sit-in at Puerto Resistencia, the epicenter of the 2021 protests in Cali, six kilometers from the USC Arena, where the new president will be inaugurated.
