The Dominican delegation regained fifth place in the overall medal count after winning 10 medals in a single day.
On Thursday, the Dominican Republic once again dominated athletics at the Central American and Caribbean Games, winning both the women’s and men’s 4×100-meter relays.

The women’s team, composed of Estrella de Aza, Liranyi Alonso, Fiordaliza Cofil, and Patricia Sine, took gold with a regional record of 43.00 seconds, surpassing the national record of 43.17 set in 2023.
Puerto Rico earned silver with a time of 43.40 seconds, just ahead of Cuba, which clocked 43.41. Jamaica narrowly missed the podium with a time of 43.42 seconds, followed by Colombia, El Salvador, and Mexico.
Dominican athlete Liranyi Alonso won her fourth gold medal, cementing her status as the “queen of athletics” in Santo Domingo.
In the men’s 4×400 relay, Melbin Marcelino, Franquelo Perez, Yohandris Andujar, and Yancarlos Martinez secured another gold medal, reaffirming the Dominican Republic’s dominance in speed and endurance events.

With these victories, the Dominican Republic reached 30 gold medals, a feat achieved for the third time in its history, following San Salvador 2002 (35 medals) and Mayaguez 2010 (31 medals).
The Dominican delegation regained fifth place in the overall medal count after winning 10 medals in a single day, raising its total to 98 medals: 24 gold, 21 silver, and 53 bronze.
The team maintains pressure on Venezuela, which has 25 gold medals, with only a minimal difference. The battle for fourth place promises to be decided in the final events of the Games.
The victories of Marileidy Paulino and Gabriel Moronta in athletics, along with karate, weightlifting and the men’s relay, confirm the strength of Dominican sport in the final stretch of the event.
