All eight police Flock cameras in Winona, Minnesota, have gone missing along with two more installed on the Mississippi River bridge in neighboring Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Police say the automated license plate readers were cut from their poles and stolen. The cameras scan license plates, but also record details about each vehicle, including its make, model, and color. Civil liberties groups have raised growing concerns about the technology. The American Civil Liberties Union says companies like Flock are building a “nationwide mass surveillance system,” tracking, logging and sharing people’s movements without a warrant.
