UNITED STATES: Public health campaigner Abdul El‑Sayed has won the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s US Senate election, overcoming more than $60 million (£45m) in campaign spending in support of his opponent Haley Stevens, mostly from pro‑Israel groups.
The Associated Press called the narrow contest yesterday , more than 12 hours after polls closed, with Mr El-Sayed holding a 1 per cent lead.
