The crime comes amid a persistent confrontation between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Gastelum, known for his humorous videos about daily life in Sinaloa, was waiting for a food order outside a restaurant when two men on a motorcycle pulled up, and one of them shot him in the head.

The attack occurred near the state prosecutor’s office and was partially captured on the live stream, while his two companions were unharmed.

The Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into the murder, but so far no arrests have been reported, and a clear motive has not been established.

The crime comes amid persistent violence in Sinaloa, where since 2024 the confrontation between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel has intensified, with an increase in homicides and disappearances.

The case of Gastelum adds to a list of other murders of content creators in Mexico, such as those of Valeria Marquez in 2025, Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales in 2017, Alfredo Villar in 2022, and Camilo Ochoa in 2025.

These events have sparked a debate about the risks faced by content creators in areas with high rates of violence, especially when they broadcast in real time and expose their location.
