A minister tasked with protecting women and girls from sexual violence did nothing when Jeffrey Epstein’s friend, Peter Mandelson, was appointed as US ambassador. Alex Davies-Jones failed to resign from Keir Starmer’s government when Mandelson got the prestigious job. When the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire pointed this out on Tuesday, she claimed that ”we were all deceived" by Mandelson. But Mandelson’s friendship with the paedophile, which continued even after his conviction for child sex offences, was public knowledge at the time of his appointment, Ash Sarkar noted on Newsnight. Davies-Jones’s answer is “shifty”, Sarkar said, adding that Labour politicians ought to start trying to tell the truth: “Stop trying to save your own skin because it looks awful.”
