On Wednesday, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office informed that seven members and one supporter of the far-right group “Last Defense Wave” (Letzte Verteidigungswelle) were sentenced in Hamburg to prison terms ranging from 18 months to five years.

They were found guilty of membership in a terrorist organization and attempted murder because they had planned and carried out attacks against refugees and left-wing activists.
The defendants were tried under juvenile law because they were between 14 and 21 years old when the offenses were committed. The youngest was sentenced to 18 months of suspended imprisonment and therefore will not serve time in prison. The trial, which began last March, was held behind closed doors because of the defendants’ ages.
The neo-Nazi group was created in 2024 with the goal of defending the “German nation” and bringing about the collapse of the democratic order through violent acts against political opponents and migrants.

In January 2025, two members broke a window at a refugee center in Schmölln and attempted to start a fire inside, but they were unsuccessful. At the scene, they painted swastikas and left graffiti with messages such as “Germany for Germans” and “National Socialist territory.”
In another case, the group set fire to a left-wing cultural center in Altdöbern, which was completely destroyed, although no one was injured due to fortuitous circumstances.
The “Last Defense Wave” group communicated through messaging applications and was at least partially dismantled a year ago, when arrests were carried out in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony and Hesse.
