While I do not object to calling a Black New York power broker a carpetbagger like a lot of people do, I do think that the “spits” crosses a line given the history of what spitting in front of a Black man represented during the Jim Crow era, especially as a lot of those racist signifiers are back on the rise again
Even for a dimwitted politician that seems like a boneheaded move.
