On Sunday, Cuba marked a positive tenth day of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, with four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, particularly in wrestling, baseball, and women’s volleyball.

In wrestling, four Cuban wrestlers reached the finals, and all were crowned champions, consolidating the delegation’s dominance in this discipline. The baseball team achieved an important victory against the Dominican hosts, while the women’s volleyball team showed promise despite their subsequent loss.
Leyanis Perez, the current world champion in the triple jump, won gold with a jump of 14.78 meters, fulfilling her goal of adding this regional title to her record.
Perez emphasized the responsibility of representing her country and dedicated the victory to her family. Her compatriot Liadagmis Povea won silver with a jump of 14.71 meters, her best mark of the season.

Povea emphasized that the supposed rivalry with Perez doesn’t exist, as they both maintain a professional and respectful relationship, training with different coaches but sharing the same athletic goals.
Meanwhile, Cuban Juan Carley Vazquez won the silver medal in shot put with a throw of 19.34 meters, finishing behind Mexico’s Uziel Muñoz, who took gold with 20.51 meters.
The men’s softball team debuted with a 4-3 victory over Panama, aiming for a medal in a high-level tournament that includes powerhouses like Venezuela, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
