Ultranationalist Officials Say Proposal Contradicts U.S. Commitments to Israel
On Monday, Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich (Finance) and Orit Malka Strook (Colonization) urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reject the 15-point road map presented by the Gaza Peace Board over the weekend.

In a letter, the ultranationalist Zionist politicians accused the document of “completely” contradicting both the objective of disarming Hamas and demilitarizing Gaza and the commitments the United States made to Israel on the issue.
Smotrich and Strook argue that the road map places the future Palestinian police force (BOP) and the International Stabilization Force (ISF) under existing Palestinian law. According to them, this is unacceptable because Palestinian law neither criminalizes terrorism nor incitement and allows the payment of salaries to Hamas militants removed from service.
The Israeli ministers warn that the provision amounts to “financing for life” members of the Islamist organization with funds that would not come from Hamas’ budget.
The letter also states that Hamas’ weapons would neither be destroyed nor removed from the Gaza Strip, but instead would be transferred to other Palestinian hands, and that the possession of personal weapons would be authorized under Palestinian law.
The Zionist politicians argue that the International Stabilization Force’s mandate has been altered “dramatically” compared with what was promised to Israel. Instead of disarming Hamas and confiscating terrorist funds, it would oversee Israeli forces, separate them from Hamas, and train the Palestinian police without taking action against Palestinians.
Smotrich and Strook also call for the creation of a mechanism allowing the exclusion from the agreement’s oversight bodies of any country that acts against Israel in international forums.

Hamas Agrees to Disarm
On July 30, U.S. President Donald Trump said the Peace Board reached an agreement for the “total disarmament” of Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in Gaza.
He said that “the agreement will be carried out in carefully structured phases” and that, once disarmament is completed, “Israeli forces will withdraw” while an international stabilization force will work alongside a new Palestinian police force to guarantee Gaza’s security.
Trump also said that weapons storage will be under the supervision of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza — a new Palestinian government — and that Israel “will have no involvement in it.”
By signing the agreement, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas committed to disarm, although, according to negotiator Ghazi Hamad on Friday, the conditions also require Israel to “withdraw from the Gaza Strip, open the border crossings and cease the killings.” “If Israel does not comply with the agreement, neither will we,” the Hamas official concluded.
