Sudan faces the world’s worst displacement crisis, with 14 million people forced to flee since April 2023.
On Monday, sources from the Sudanese Interior Ministry reported that hundreds of people have fled the Tigre region into Sudan in the last three days due to escalating violence between the Ethiopian army and the Tigre Popular Liberation Front (TPLF).

More than 900 refugees had crossed the border by dawn on Monday, most of them children, women, and the elderly in extremely vulnerable situations.
According to the United Nations (UN), Sudan is facing the world’s worst displacement crisis, with 14 million people forced to flee since the start of the war in April 2023, which is exacerbating the national famine.
Refugees from Tigray have received basic care before being transferred to Al Hashaba, 15 kilometers from the border, although some Sudanese camps have suffered the impact of cross-border attacks.

The Refugee Commission reported deaths and injuries in camps in eastern Sudan due to clashes in Ethiopia, without yet providing an official casualty count, which is increasing regional tensions.
The organization warned that the military deployment in Tigray could trigger a greater influx of refugees, and therefore called on the international community for urgent intervention to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
Sudan had already established refugee camps such as Um Rakuba, in Gedaref, following the conflict between the PFLT and the Ethiopian army between 2020 and 2022, which left some 600,000 dead and millions displaced.
