Bagaei Says Only Oman Involved in Strait of Hormuz Discussions.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei said that Iran is not currently holding negotiations with the United States. His statement takes place hours after U.S. President Donald Trump said he had called off a “massive attack” against Iran and that conversations with Tehran had resumed.

Spokesman Ismail Bagaei said Iran is only conducting talks with Oman, focused on reaching an agreement on a pathway to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
“These negotiations are bilateral between two riparian states. Others can play a constructive or destructive role in this process, but the matter belongs to Iran and Oman,” Bagaei said.
Bagaei insisted that any progress on matters related to the United States would depend on how the situation evolves. He reiterated that an agreement on a safe route for navigation through the strait is a “necessary condition” for its reopening “but not a sufficient condition.”
Trump went from threatening overwhelming force on Friday to canceling the strike by Sunday, then tried to sell the reversal as another victory.

He also warned there will be no significant changes in the strait’s situation as long as U.S. military aggression, the naval blockade against Iran, and Washington’s breaches of commitments continue.
On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country is moving with Oman toward the final phase of negotiations on the future management of the Strait of Hormuz, in which they are seeking to establish a new navigation route. He stressed that the agreement is not related to the reopening or closure of the strategic maritime passage.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passed before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, has become one of the main flashpoints of the conflict.
On July 12, Iran declared a new closure of the strait after the United States launched bombings on Iranian territory in response to Tehran’s attacks on commercial vessels attempting to traverse the route proposed by Oman. The United States also reinstated a naval blockade on Iranian ships and ports in the area.
