On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump used the migration crisis in Ceuta to stoke fear among U.S. voters just months before the midterm elections.

“Yesterday I watched what happened in Spain and saw the catastrophe that took place. It looked like an invasion of a country by hundreds of thousands of people, and the same thing is going to happen to us if the Republicans don’t win, only much worse,” he said during a Cabinet meeting held at the Camp David.
After seeing the images from Ceuta, Trump decided that Republicans should use the issue during the campaign for the Nov. 3 elections, in which part of Congress will be renewed.
“When you see what happened in Spain, they don’t know what to do there, and it’s happening again today. They are coming in by the tens of thousands, simply invading the country, and that is because of weak law enforcement, poor administration, and very progressive laws,” the Republican leader said, despite the fact that migration flows declined significantly on Friday.

In an attempt to portray himself as the savior of the United States, Trump claimed credit for having halted migrant waves and blamed them on an “open-border policy” implemented by former President Joe Biden (2021-2025).
On Thursday, thousands of people from Morocco entered Ceuta irregularly. At least 57 African migrants died while trying to reach the Spanish city by sea.
The White House, an ally of the absolute monarchy that governs Morocco, a country whose police officers allowed the flow of thousands of migrants, blamed “far-left globalist policies” for the chaos in Ceuta.
On Friday, Spanish President Pedro Sanchez described the events in Ceuta as an “attack” and “a violation of the territorial integrity” of his country.
