Currently, the Trump administration is considering military options against the Caribbean nation.

On Friday, China urged the United States to immediately stop threatening the use of force against Cuba and to lift the blockade imposed on the Caribbean nation.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the call during a press briefing after being asked about recent reports indicating that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is evaluating various options to carry out possible military action against Cuba.

“We have taken note of the relevant reports. China has stated its position on these issues on multiple occasions,” she said, adding that China will continue to firmly support the unrestricted defense of Cuban national sovereignty and self-determination.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that her country is committed to working with all parties to uphold fairness, international justice, and the principles of multilateral law. Her statement comes amid the U.S. oil blockade against Cuba, a policy implemented at the beginning of the year that has further tightened the economic blockade imposed for more than six decades.

Since Trump began his second term in January 2025, he has intensified his pressure campaign against the Caribbean nation.

The economic blockade implemented by the U.S. administration includes the deployment of U.S. Southern Command naval forces in Caribbean waters to block fuel supplies and choke off the country’s financial revenue.

The U.S. arbitrary sanctions have directly caused a deterioration in the operation of Cuba’s essential public services, the national power grid, health care provision, and food supply.

Cuban authorities have consistently denounced these hostile actions as a genocidal policy aimed at subverting the constitutional order through economic strangulation.
