French authorities offer support through Frontex and coordinate with Spain and Morocco.
On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron ordered Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez to take “all appropriate measures to strengthen controls on the border with Spain.”

Currently, French authorities are in contact with Spanish and Moroccan authorities to ensure close monitoring of the situation and strengthen coordination among the various agencies involved.
Regarding the offer of assistance, France is “prepared to provide the Spanish authorities with all the support they need, should they request it, including through the Frontex agency,” the EFE news agency reported.
The reinforced measures are in addition to those adopted in 2020 to strengthen security along the Spanish border, which included doubling the number of security forces in the area and the 2024 reform of the Schengen Code to strengthen border controls.

French authorities also mentioned joint brigades and coordinated action with the Spanish authorities to combat illegal immigration.
On Thursday night, Interior Minister Nuñez instructed authorities to strengthen controls on the Spanish border without delay and activated the Rapid Border Intervention Force to carry out comprehensive inspections.
In an interview with RTL radio, Nuñez also said he was in contact yesterday and would be in contact again today with Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
The French position is more moderate than that adopted by Italy and Finland, which have gone so far as to call for Spain’s suspension from the Schengen Area following the irregular arrival of nearly 50,000 migrants in Ceuta, an episode that has left at least 34 people dead.
