The UN Security Council Resolution 2334, adopted in 2016, declares that the settlements “have no legal validity” and constitute a flagrant violation of international law. The European Union has issued multiple statements calling for a halt to settlement construction, yet trade agreements and diplomatic relations with Israel remain largely unaffected, exposing what critics describe as the hypocrisy of Western condemnation without consequences.
The measure was formalized through a military order signed by the commander of the Central Command of the occupation forces, General Avi Blot, with the backing of the Israeli political leadership.
