The U.S. government escalated its anti-immigrant offensive today as undercover ICE agents launched coordinated sweeps at 15 domestic airports, targeting undocumented immigrants with expired visas to double daily detentions.

Undercover federal agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are now conducting arrests directly at check-in counters and boarding gates in at least 15 major airports.

These interventions, actively supported by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), target travelers with expired visas trying to board domestic flights.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) justified the operations as a necessary measure to prevent undocumented immigrants from utilizing domestic air travel. The strategy aims to double the country’s daily arrest rate to reach at least 2.000 detentions nationwide, affecting families of more than a dozen nationalities.

Among those detained are spouses of U.S. citizens, specialized tech workers, and individuals with pending immigration proceedings. Reported cases include Chantal Morales Rojas, an Ecuadorian national arrested in Denver despite having a pending request to remain in the country, and Iryna Gorb, a Ukrainian national detained in San Francisco after residing in the United States for 15 years.

This surge in domestic airport policing has drawn fierce condemnation from legal defense groups, immigrant rights coalitions, and international analysts who denounce the psychological and social toll of these sudden family separations.

The implementation of these aggressive enforcement measures occurs amid a sharp decline in public approval for the U.S. President. Recent opinion polls indicate that a majority of the population believes the administration is disconnected from domestic realities, prioritizing political showmanship over economic stability.

This growing social discontent is further fueled by the severe impact of inflation on household budgets and the high financial and political costs associated with Washington’s ongoing military involvement in Western Asia.

This aggressive campaign has pushed the total number of individuals confined in private and federal detention centers to an unprecedented figure of more than 65.700 people, prompting human rights organizations to warn of critical overcrowding and systemic abuse within the holding facilities.
