The demonstrators rejected recent human rights commission rulings and judicial decisions that favor former state officials implicated in the 2014 tragedy.
Relatives of the 43 disappeared Ayotzinapa students marched this Monday in Mexico City, demanding concrete investigative progress from President Claudia Sheinbaum ahead of their upcoming high-level meetings.
The solemn mobilization marked nearly 12 years since the state-sponsored forced disappearance of the young normalistas in September 2014.

Accompanied by diverse social organizations, the parents marched from the iconic Independence Angel to the Juarez Hemicircle. Throughout the protest, the participants expressed profound indignation over the persistent lack of clarity regarding the fate of the victims.
During the central rally, Hilda Legideño, mother of Jorge Antonio Tizapa Legideño, publicly denounced the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH). Legideño declared that the institution’s latest official pronouncement represents a historical regression that distances the victims’ families from the truth. She demanded that the federal government prioritize genuine scientific investigation over bureaucratic maneuvers designed to obscure responsibility.

Adding to this criticism, the legal representative of the families, Isidoro Vicario, rebuked the CNDH for executing its recent report without consulting the parents. Vicario stated that this unilateral action deliberately undermines the scientific findings compiled by the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI). He emphasized that the commission’s document fails to reflect the factual evidence of the case.
Fighting Against Impunity
Vicario also rejected media narratives suggesting internal divisions among the relatives of the disappeared students. The attorney declared that the collective remains completely unified in its primary objective of locating the youth. He assured that despite coordinated attempts by state actors to fracture their coalition, the families will continue their struggle.
Emiliano Navarrete, father of José Ángel Navarrete González, stated that Mexican authorities have abandoned the proper path toward clarifying the historic crime. Navarrete insisted that the families will never cease their search until they find their sons. He expressed that their resolve remains unbreakable despite years of systematic institutional neglect and political delays.
Furthermore, Navarrete strongly condemned a federal judge’s decision to revoke the preventive prison sentence of former Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam. This judicial measure allows the former official, who designed the discredited “historical truth” narrative, to remain under electronic monitoring. The parents interpret this development as an act of institutional complicity that fosters impunity.
Before starting the main political speeches, the protesters gathered at the Ayotzinapa anti-monument on Paseo de la Reforma to perform a traditional roll call. Following the pronunciation of each student’s name, the crowd chanted “Presentación con vida!” to demand accountability. This protest highlights the ongoing struggle for human rights and systemic change in contemporary Mexico.
