Tehran Calls Strike Illegal and Unjustified as Russia Also Condemns the Incident.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei warned that his country will respond to the attack carried out by Ukraine against an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea that killed one sailor and injured another.

The attack is an “absolutely illegal and unjustified” act, a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a dangerous action that “will not go unpunished,” he stressed.
In an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that his forces carried out long-range strikes against vessels allegedly used to transport military cargo.
In an attempt to justify the Caspian Sea attack, he said that Iran has been transferring Shahed drones and new technologies to Russia since the first year of the war.
Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araqchi denounced before the international community that Ukraine had acted at Israel’s instigation in the attack on the Iranian ship.
“Zelensky has attacked an Iranian commercial vessel, killing a sailor. A blatant United Nations Charter violation done at Israel’s behest to drag Europe into its war. In calls with EU High Representative Kallas and Russian Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, made clear that what the freeloader in Kiev CANNOT GO UNANSWERED,” he said.

On Monday, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian presidency, also condemned the Ukrainian attack and said that such aggressive actions “in other times, would have been a casus belli.”
“Iran is a sovereign country that is highly determined when it comes to defending its rights and has the corresponding capabilities,” he said.
“We will see how events develop, but the expansion of the geography of the conflict, of course, is not something we would like to see,” Peskov said, recalling that Ukraine has already attacked other countries and the Nord Stream pipelines that carried Russian gas to Germany.
The Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires in Tehran to protest the attack on a merchant vessel. In response to Iran’s protests, Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha also justified the incident by arguing that Iran has been supplying weapons to Russia since the beginning of the special military operation.
“Iran is in no position to portray itself as a victim, let alone justify its threats with absurd references to the United Nations Charter,” Sybiha posted on social media.
