President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo rejected that an “anti-Argentine campaign” exists, as the president of that country, Javier Milei, claimed, who asserted, without presenting evidence, that the alleged campaign was financed from Mexico, Brazil and by the Democratic Party.
Asked this Monday at her morning press conference about the statements of the South American far-right figure, Sheinbaum Pardo responded:
“It’s false, there is no campaign against any country in the world, nor against any government in the world.”
She pointed out that, on the contrary, what does exist is a campaign orchestrated from many places against our government, “but we are not in the habit of meddling with other countries. Self-determination of peoples, and we ask for the same: respect.”
Meanwhile, regarding the reform in Nicaragua that seeks to prevent the participation of opposition parties in elections, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo spoke out for the self-determination of peoples and for each country to decide, while noting that she is in favor of democracy.
“The first thing is the self-determination of peoples, what the people of Nicaragua decide. And we are always in agreement with democracy on all issues,” she maintained this Monday at the National Palace.
Asked whether that is the course that should be taken in Mexico with respect to conservative and right-wing groups, she made clear: “No, how could you think that? Here there are elections every six years. What’s more, there is recall of mandate.”
She insisted that there must be “democracy, democracy, democracy. Power of the people, government of the people.”
She added that “each country decides, each people decides. We are in favor of democracy, but each country has its self-determination and decides how it organizes itself. There are other presidents who have been reelected and who want to be reelected more times… each country decides. Europe has prime ministers who can be reelected, reelected and reelected. Well, each country decides.”
