Biometric Verification Prevents Fraud as Registration Continues for Families Affected by June 24 Earthquakes.

On Sunday, La Guaira Gov. Jose Alejandro Teran announced that 21,075 families have been registered through the Single Housing Registry in his state so far.

“As of noon this Sunday, 21,075 households, comprising 71,120 people, have benefited from the census that began 13 days ago,” he said, dismissing any possibility of fraud involving the data.

“This system records people’s identities by capturing their fingerprints. The information is then validated through an interconnected system,” Teran explained.

The Single Housing Registry verifies applicants’ information by cross-checking it with municipal land records, the Great Housing Mission, and other public entities to determine geographically whether the information provided by the citizen is accurate.

“This system has been a success and demonstrates the confidence that the people of La Guaira have in the Single Housing Registry and the public policies the government is implementing to provide housing solutions,” Teran said.

“The census will continue for as long as necessary. It is not aimed solely at families whose homes are in buildings that received a red tag,” he added.

Currently, the Venezuelan Housing Ministry is keeping the Single Housing Registry active to expedite assistance for families affected by the June 24 earthquakes.

The census is being conducted in person at the temporary camps where those affected are staying and constitutes the mandatory first step to promptly process the allocation of new homes.

To prevent duplicate registrations, the census uses biometric recognition technology to build a reliable database and ensure the unique identity of each beneficiary before proceeding with the final housing allocations.

It also collects data to contact beneficiaries, document the composition of each family and assess the actual condition of the affected property.

Each head of household receives a printed receipt with a unique QR code. This document serves as the official certification confirming the citizen’s right to receive a permanent housing solution from the Venezuelan state.

Additionally, officials from the Housing Ministry are conducting field visits in the areas affected by the earthquakes to register potential beneficiaries of this emergency social program.
